As a Support Worker, I am committed to empowering individuals with disabilities by assisting them with daily tasks and fostering their independence. My work involves helping clients access community resources and participate in activities that enhance their overall well-being.
I bring a deeply personal understanding to my role, having provided full-time care for my father for 11 years following a severe spinal cord injury, a broken hip, and a heart condition. This experience taught me the importance of constant, compassionate supervision and attention to quality of life. More recently, I have supported my mother through her journey with a terminal illness, assisting with chemotherapy treatments, transportation, and medication administration.
My philosophy is centered on empowerment, compassion, and inclusivity. I believe every individual has inherent value and potential. My mission is to support those I work with in fostering independence, ultimately creating an environment where everyone can thrive within a diverse and supportive community.
I want the people I support and their families to know that I am a good listener who values open communication. I believe in creating a supportive atmosphere where we can share both serious moments and light-hearted fun. Compassion is at the heart of what I do, as I strive to connect with individuals on a personal level and make a positive impact in their lives. One small way I do this is by greeting everyone with a warm smile and a friendly hello to set a positive tone for our time together.
A favourite memory from my time at Bridges Alliance was a river cruise with a client. As we enjoyed the beautiful scenery and playful wildlife, we shared laughter and stories, creating a genuine bond. Seeing my client’s face light up with joy made the day special—it was about connecting, fostering independence, and making lasting memories together.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, crocheting and knitting, decorating cakes, and relaxing. What I like most about working at Bridges Alliance is the team; the staff I work with are absolutely amazing, and we work together with genuine care.

My personal philosophy is centered on empowering individuals with disabilities through independence, confidence, and clear communication. I focus on abilities and promoting self-sufficiency and overall well-being in everything I do.

I listen actively and adapt to individual needs with patience, empathy, and a positive, flexible approach. One small thing I always try to do is remember and incorporate participants' favourite activities or interests into our time together, whether it's playing their favourite music or sharing a light-hearted joke.

Caz Akor
Support Worker
I have been with Bridges Alliance for one month
Caz Akor is a dedicated Support Worker at Bridges Alliance who is passionate about helping participants live with confidence, dignity, and independence. Working across several Bridges Alliance Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes, Caz supports participants with their day-to-day routines while encouraging them to build practical life skills and stay connected with their community.
With over a decade of experience in the health and social care field, Caz brings a broad background that includes work in aged care, community support, and time spent on the ambulance. This experience has helped shape her calm, patient approach and her ability to support people with empathy and understanding.
Caz believes strongly in building independence and confidence in the people she supports. She focuses on listening carefully, offering gentle guidance when needed, and always ensuring participants maintain choice and control over their lives. She also enjoys bringing a sense of fun into everyday activities — especially when cooking together with participants.
One recent moment that made Caz particularly proud was helping a participant achieve a fine motor skill for the first time. “In that moment,” she says, “I felt like a proud big sister.”
Outside of work, Caz enjoys cooking and relaxing with a good book.
Fun fact: Caz can sneeze with her eyes open — something many people insist is scientifically impossible!
