Navigating the 2026-27 NDIS Budget Reforms: A Bridges Alliance Perspective

As the 2026-27 Federal Budget is handed down, the disability sector is preparing for a period of significant transition. At Bridges Alliance, we are committed to helping our participants and their families understand these legislative shifts and what they mean for your daily support.

The government's "Securing the NDIS for Future Generations" plan centers on four key pillars: sustainability, clearer eligibility, fighting fraud, and delivering high-quality services.

What you need to know about the upcoming reforms:

  • Standardised Assessments: Access to the NDIS will move away from simple diagnosis lists. Instead, standardized, evidence-based assessments of a person’s functional capacity will determine eligibility.

  • A New Approach for Children: The $2 billion "Thriving Kids" program will launch as part of a $5 billion Foundational Supports commitment. Starting October 2026, children under nine with mild-to-moderate delays will increasingly be supported through these early-intervention services outside the NDIS.

  • Budget & Planning Flexibility: New Framework Planning will be progressively implemented from February 2027 to deliver more equitable and consistent budgets. While unspent funds will no longer "roll over," participants will gain more flexibility in how they use their daily support funding.

  • Provider Registration & Oversight: To protect participants from exploitation, the government is expanding mandatory registration for providers in high-risk categories and investing $550 million into anti-fraud measures.

  • Inclusive Communities Fund: A new $200 million fund has been established to help community organizations host genuine participation activities, ensuring the NDIS remains connected to broader mainstream services.

Our Commitment to You

While these reforms aim to slow rapid cost increases and ensure the Scheme’s long-term sustainability, we know they can cause uncertainty. Bridges Alliance remains your dedicated partner, ensuring your voice is heard and your needs are met throughout this transition.
